All you need to know about plywood
Plywood is a multi-purpose engineered wood-based panel product that is used in many different ways. It binds together resin and wood fiber sheets to form a composite material.

How is plywood made?
Plywood sheets are made from several layers of hardwood that are cross-laminated together with the grain running parallel to each other. These layers are then fastened together with a waterproof adhesive and cured under heat and pressure.
What is plywood used for?
Plywood sheets can be used for a variety of purposes, including sub-flooring, single-layer flooring, wall, roof, and floor sheathing. They can also be used to create structural insulated panels and webs of wood I-joists. Wigwam plywood is designed to meet all these requirements.
Types of plywood
- Softwood ply is usually made of cedar, Douglas fir, or spruce and is used for construction and industrial purposes. Often used as flooring for applications where it prevents one board from moving up or down relative to its neighbor, it provides a solid floor without any gaps or overlaps.
- Hardwood ply is made of wood from dicot trees, which are strong and stiff. It's perfect for demanding end uses like floor and wall construction because it has a high planar shear strength and is impact resistant.
- Marine plywood is made from durable face and core veneers, which helps in it lasting longer in humid and wet conditions and resisting delaminating and fungal attacks. Its construction is such that it can be used in environments where it is exposed to moisture for long periods. The plywood limits the chance of water absorption, which results in a solid and stable glue bond. There are many types of plywood, each with its own benefits.
- Fire-retardant plywood is designed to reduce the risk of a fire, while moisture-resistant plywood is good for keeping things dry. Wire mesh is used to protect signs from damage, while pressure-treated plywood is strong and resistant to weathering.
